The Importance of Leading Rides
At the heart of every club are rides. We're all members of the club because we enjoy cycling, and we really enjoy cycling with others. Leading rides is the single most important task in the club. And you'll find that it's actually quite easy to lead a ride. Please read on...
Overview of the Ride Leader Duties and Responsibilities
The route:
You can either design your own route or use a route from a previous ride.
Ride Grades:
The Ride Grade Code indicates the overall amount of climbing on the ride. The Ride Codes designations are "A" - "F", with "A" being the hilliest (most difficult), and "F" being the flattest rides.
Start Location:
Pick a meeting location that can accommodate the number of vehicles that you expect on the ride. If necessary get permission from the parking lot owner.
Start Times:
Plan your start times with the length of ride and the time of year in mind. Summer rides would normally start earlier than winter rides. And short rides should start later than longer rides.

During the Ride:
As the Ride Leader your main job is to ride at the back of the pack to support less experienced cyclists, and make sure no riders are left behind, or find themselves without support.
After the Ride:Make sure everyone has checked in and that no vehicles are left in the parking lot. If necessary drive the route, in reverse, to locate any missing riders.
