Thermals  

Base Layer

A lightweight polypro or silk thermal top will keep you warm and pull moisture away from your skin. On a cold day they will add a lot of warmth for very little bulk. The down side is that if you become too warm they can be inconvenient remove.

Jersey  

Jersey

Jerseys come in three basic styles: light short-sleeved OR sleeveless summer jerseys; long-sleeved medium weight jerseys ; and long-sleeved thermal lined jerseys.

  Pros: Necessary Gear
  Notes: The summer style jerseys function well in the winter with the addition of Arm-Warmers and/or thermals. The long-sleeved and thermal lined jerseys add more warmth. Sleeveless jersey do not work well for the winter.
     
Arm Warmers  

Arm Warmers

Arm Warmers just pull up over your arms; think of them as zip off sleeves without the zipper. They provide good thermal protection.

  Pros: Can be pushed down around wrists while riding and pulled back up if needed. Pack easily
  Cons: Are you kidding ;>)
  Notes: Look for ones made of wind-block material
     
Windbreaker  

Windbreaker

Look for a windproof breathable windbreaker in bright colors. Make sure you get one with plenty of room. "Pit-zips" and a 2-way front zipper are real pluses. Look for ones with reflective piping or tape for better visibility.

  Pros: A lot of protection with very little bulk.
  Notes: Pit-zips and 2-way front zippers allow you to easily adjust air flow to better regulate you core temperature.
