Hello everyone,
Kick the new touring season off right with the best Yosemite tour of the year. After much request the Yosemite tour is back. The 2008 version will be bigger and better than ever. The opportunity that you have been waiting for is upon you so don't delay any longer, read on and join in the fun by registering for this grand tour to one of the most spectacular National Parks in the USA.
The Tour Dates:
Sunday, May 4th. thru Thursday, May 8th. Yes, an exhilarating tour of five fun filled days and four nights.
The Tour itinerary:
Day one-Sunday:
We will be taking the early train from Sacramento to Merced.
Then we will cycle from Merced to Mariposa (approximately 50 miles) with a lunch break provided midway with many historical sights to see along the way. Once in Mariposa there are plenty of things to do and see all within walking or biking distance from the Best Western hotel where we will be staying the night.
Day two-Monday:
We will head to El Portal where we will be staying for three nights at the Cedar Lodge (nice hotel). You can ride at a leisurely pace as we only have 25 miles or so to cover. There are many places along the Merced River where you can dip your feet in (or your whole body) and arrive at Cedar Lodge early enough in the day to relax, read, swim or? And for the animals in the group you can power ahead to the valley, which is 20 miles past Cedar Lodge with about 2500 feet of climbing. Since the entry fee into the park is good for a week you only have to pay for this once.
Days three and four-Tuesday and Wednesday:
We head to Yosemite Valley early in the AM either by bike or bus and spend both days there bicycling, hiking or touring the vast park. Bikes can be left at the hotel, if you desire, as the bus service to and in the park is quite complete. There are additional reasonable fees for the buses within the park. For the mega mile riders there will be a long ride offered on day three to Wawona from Cedar Lodge with 85 miles of riding and 7200' of climbing. The options are yours.
Day five-Thursday:
We cycle back to Merced (approx. 65 miles with 2300 feet of climbing) to catch the last train to Sacramento. We should have plenty of time for dinner in Merced before boarding the train. So we have lots of time to share tall tales of the trip with our cycling buddies. As you can see this tour will NOT be limited to bicycling activities but will also include hiking, sightseeing, bird watching, swimming, etc., as your interests dictate. If this sounds like an exciting tour that you want to participate in then respond to this E-mail as soon as possible because space is limited.
The Tour package includes:
1. The hotel rooms will be booked in advance. We have negotiated special rates for the group. The group rates are calculated on a per person basis, double occupancy, for four nights at $68.75/person/ night (such a bargain!). Single occupants must pay the full double occupancy rate of $137.50/person/ night (we recommend against this though as we have a limited number of rooms available).
2. Detailed route sheets and maps for each leg of the tour.
3. Sag support. A SAG vehicle will be available on all five days to transport your gear, with limited transport for those who need assistance up some of the bigger climbs. We may have two sag vehicles this year.
