Three Amigos Tour
(new and improved)
A tour with attitude and altitude
Sept 11/12-14 Thursday/Friday-Sunday
Don’t party to hearty though as we get up early to break camp and a quick breakfast before we head out on our bikes continuing along Lake Tahoe. There is a bike trail available along sections of Hwy 89 but for the most part the road is the better of the two choices. We swoop down to the community of South Lake Tahoe and have lunch before we head up our first big climb of the day…Luther Pass. Then it’s a great descent to the junction with Hwy 88 and yes another climb or two looming ahead of us…Carson Pass and Carson Spur. The great scenery and the thoughts of another warm solar shower, good food, and more tall tales around the campfire will propel us to the next campground at Silver Lake Campground East. Saturday will be 60 miles and 5300’ of climbing. Our highest point will be Carson Pass at 8574’
Repeating our routine from Saturday morning we get up early to break camp and another quick breakfast before we take to our bikes. Sunday will be our longest mileage day but should be quite a bit easier than the day before. We will be riding 82 miles, yet only climb 2500’. A sweet descent awaits the riders after only 6 miles...Mormon Emigrant Trail with lesser descents all the way back to the Sacramento area. We will be traversing such roads as Sly Park, Pleasant Valley, Motherlode, Durock, Cameron Park, and Green Valley heading back to the Sacramento area. Lunch will be in the Cameron Park Area. Total elevation gain for the tour can range from a minimum of 8700’ to a maximum of 20,500’ (four day and all the options taken).
Support
This ride will be well supported with two, possibly three SAG vehicles, one pulling an enclosed trailer which will carry the bikes up to Truckee and some of the camping gear. We may also have use of a box truck. For the three day riders you will need to carry baggage and possibly some of your camping gear onto the train in Roseville. Once the bikes are unloaded in Truckee all you will need to carry on your bike is yourself, and the items needed to carry you through on a normal club ride. SAG will be available with additional water and snack type foods throughout the day. Some meals will be provided and some will be on-your-own…details later.
Participants
Riders who participate in this ride should be able to do a hilly century in comfort (such as the old Sierra Century, or Chico Wildflower). While this tour is after the height of the tourist season there will still be traffic. So you need to be comfortable with riding along side other road users.
Accommodations
This is a camping tour but if you rather not camp there are other options available. If you choose this Girlie man option it will be up to you to secure your accommodations early.
Costs
Estimated tour cost is $25.00 per day (3 day 75.00, 4 day 100.00) plus train fare (if riding the three day option-$38.00) plus restaurant meals (some meals provided). A $10.00 check will secure your spot...the balance due by Sept. 1, 2008.
So come join the Three Amigos Bill, Casey and Steve along with our infamous SAG crew for a very scenic, fun filled, lung busting, thigh burning, fun filled weekend (yes that was intentional).
