The Year of “Firsts” Program

Be part of the 2nd annual year of firsts! Last year the Ride Committee developed this popular program, challenged members to set a bicycling-related goal that would be a stretch for them, and to achieve the goal by December 31st. Twenty-four members made awesome goals and met them.
Once again you are encouraged to set a cycling goal. Make it a goal that is beyond your current capabilities, but that would be achievable with some hard work on your part. Make it a challenge that you cannot complete tomorrow, but one that wil help you achieve new skills.

How does the YEAR OF FIRSTS program work?
We all work on the honor system.

The program starts April 1, 2008 and ends December 31, 2008. Goals must be completed in 2008.

Set your goal, complete the registration form, and send it with your $10.00 registration fee to the address indicated on the form. Make checks or money orders payable to Sacramento Bike Hikers.

Registration forms must be received by July 1, 2008, and before you achieve your goal.

Monitor your progress and let us know when you reach the goal. We will keep track and, with your permission, let others know by e-mail.

Goal update option: If your dedication and hard work enable you to achieve your goal sooner, you may request a one-time goal upgrade to tackle a more challenging goal. You can do this without paying an additional fee.

This is not a contest, but a way to take your cycling to another level. Club Members who achieve their goals will be recognized at a special ceremony in early 2009. Further details will be announced later in the year.

Remember, the goal is yours, is challenging, self-monitored, and requires the use of your bicycle. Let’s continue a good thing started by the Ride Committee!
